Founded on January 13, 1913, at Howard University, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is dedicated to promoting academic excellence and providing assistance to those in need. The sorority was established by 22 collegiate women who wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to persons in need.

Rich History and Foundation

Delta Sigma Theta’s founders were driven by a passion for public service and social justice. The sorority has grown to include over 1,000 chapters and has initiated more than 300,000 members. Delta Sigma Theta’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, which includes economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement, guides their service initiatives.

Acts of Service

Delta Sigma Theta’s service programs are extensive and impactful. Initiatives like the Delta Academy, which provides mentoring and educational opportunities for young girls, and the Delta GEMS, which helps young women excel academically and develop strong leadership skills, showcase the sorority’s commitment to empowerment and education.
