Founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. holds the distinction of being the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men. The fraternity was conceived by seven visionary founders known as the “Seven Jewels” who were determined to create an organization that would advocate for the rights and dignity of African Americans.
